Obituary of Richard C. Sherwood

Port Allegany - Richard C. Sherwood, 69, of Port Allegany, died Monday (March 5, 2018) in the Olean General Hospital, Olean. He was born April 27, 1948 in Port Allegany, a son of Llewellyn and Grace Chase Sherwood. On August 11, 1990, in Eldred, PA, he married Marilyn K. Taylor, who survives. Mr. Sherwood was a graduate of Port Allegany High School. He was employed as a machine operator by Ardagh Group retiring in 2003. He was a member of the American Flint Glass Workers Union Local 1019. He was an avid sports fan. He loved the Port Allegany Gators and watching his children and grandchildren participating in sports. He was a graduate of Port Allegany High School and was active in all sports and was the 1966 Athlete of the Year. In addition to his wife, he is survived by Six daughters: Calee (Bryan) Phelps of Coudersport, PA, Shelly (Phil, Jr.) Morey of Roulette, PA, Holly Sherwood of Coudersport, PA, Cheri (Scott) Tubbs of Coudersport, PA, Kristie (Dave) Miles of Port Allegany, PA and Nicole DeHaven of FL, One son: Richard J. Sherwood of Jacksonville, FL 21 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren Three sisters: Donna (Darrell) VanSickles of Port Allegany, PA, Debbie Montes of IA and Diane Sherwood Metzler of Beaver Falls, PA, Four brothers: James (Sue) Sherwood of AR, Thomas Sherwood of Coudersport, PA, Denny (Angela) Sherwood of NC and Perry (Sally) Hanchett of Port Allegany, PA, and many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, Step Father Clarence Hanchett, first wife Rosanne Sherwood, 3 brothers Jeff Holiday, David and Brian Hanchett, and one sister Gloria Knauer Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 10, from 10AM to 1PM at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Port Allegany, where funeral and committal services will begin at 1 PM with the Rev. David Miles, officiating. Burial will be in the Card Creek Cemetery, Roulette.
