Obituary of Charles F. Boller
Port Allegany – Charles "Chuck" F. Boller, 87, of Greenville, PA, formerly of Port Allegany, died Thursday (August 14, 2014) in Greenville surrounded by loved ones.

Born June 26, 1927 in Port Allegany, the son of Charles F. and Nelle P. Archey Boller, Sr. On Sept. 9, 1949, in Port Allegany, he married Ruth E. Dalrymple, who died after a long illness on June 7, 1960. On June 21, 1969, in Port Allegany, he married Jo Ann K. Wells, who survives.
Mr. Boller was a 1944 graduate of Port Allegany High School. Attending Pennsylvania State College (now Penn State University) where he majored in Journalism and was a member of the Glee Club, the Chapel Choir and the Penn State Christian Association, he graduated in 1949. Serving from 1945 to 1946, he was a Tech. 5 in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
Mr. Boller is best known for his role in the life of the weekly community newspaper, the Port Allegany Reporter Argus, a publication for which the name Boller and Reporter Argus became nearly synonymous. Involved for over half-a-century beginning with his work as a teenager with his father at "the paper", Mr. Boller learned the business "from the ground up". Following his Journalistic studies at Penn State, Mr. Boller officially began his newspaper career in 1949 as Partner with his father, assuming the role of Editor. In 1965, at the death of his father, "Chuck" became Editor, Publisher and Owner of the Reporter Argus, roles he carried on for the next 20 years with a passionate commitment reporting the vitality of Port Allegany as a community. In 1985, he retired from these roles to spend more well-deserved time with family and other community pursuits.
Mr. Boller was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, serving as Lay Leader and a Lifetime Member of the Church Choir. He was active in Masonry being a member and Past Worshipful Master, Liberty Lodge #505; Coudersport Consistory; Arnold Chapter, X 254, Royal Arch Masons; and recipient of Masonic Meritorious Service Award. Combining his love of choral sacred music and his involvement in Masonry, he was a member of the Passion Play Consistory Choir for over 40 years as well as a long-time member of the Consistory Men's Choir. Committed to community service, he has served as Director of several community service organizations, including the Red Cross, the Community Chest (now United Fund), the Exchange Club, and the Port Allegany Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to his wife Jo Ann, he is survived by:
four daughters: Marcia (Sean) Reynolds of Glen Mills, PA, Debra (James) Anderson of Ruston, LA, Julie (Jeffrey) James of Hermitage, PA, Lori (Joseph) Cuffari of Millstone Township, NJ;
one son: Paul (Susan) Boller of Kenneth City, FL
eight grandchildren,
three great-grandchildren
one younger sister: Mary (Philip) Causer of Port Allegany, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth and his older sister Jane Slingerland of Canton, PA
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 from 6-8pm in the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, 307 N Main St, Port Allegany,PA. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30 P.M. in the Methodist Church during visiting hours. Visitation will also be held from 2-3pm on Sunday, August 31, 2014 in the Port Allegany United Methodist Church followed by a memorial services at 3 PM with the Rev. Randall Headley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Full Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Port Allegany Honor Guard
