Obituary of Margaret D. Robishaw

Margaret Davis Robishaw, 99, passed away March 13, 2012, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home. Always known as "Peg," Mrs. Robishaw was born on January 9, 1913, in Bordell, Farmers Valley, the daughter of LaRoy B. and Laura Amelia (Pelton) Davis. Peg graduated from Smethport Schools where she excelled in all her classes. She then completed two years at the Bradford Hospital School of Nursing in 1934 and 1935. In 1936 and 1937, she completed two years at the Pittsburgh School of Arts, where she studied design and dress-making. She moved to Rhode Island in the late 30's, where she worked as the office manager for the Central Falls Rhode Island Pantex Pressing Machine Company, supervising fifty employees. In 1943 in Providence, Rhode Island, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps, serving with distinction as a teletypewriter operator. She attained the rank of Sergeant in the 1258 th Medical Department, and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal. After the War, Peg lived in Cranston, Rhode Island, working with people with speech impairments and taking classes in speech pathology at the University of Rhode Island. On May 9, 1961, she married Edward Robishaw. In 1968, Peg and Eddie moved to North Kingston, Rhode Island, near Saw Mill Pond, where for many years Peg gave private music lessons and cared for the local and migratory birds that frequented the Pond. Known as the "North Kingston Bird Lady," Peg also worked to combat the increasing dangers of pollution, warning: "Someone has got to wake up.a whole lot of someones. Each landowner should do what he can to keep things in balance." Peg was a devout Episcopalian who attended St. Andrew's in Spring Hill, FL, St. John's in Brooksville, FL and the Church of the Ascension in Bradford. She loved Bible study, and for over seventy years she either attended or conducted Bible-study meetings. Of great importance to her was a ministry devoted to angels. Beginning in the Seventies, Peg and her husband traveled through most of the fifty states. They selected Brooksville, Florida, as their second home and spent many years traveling between Rhode Island and Florida, where Peg spent many years performing volunteer work. In 2004, four years after her beloved husband Eddie's death, Peg returned to Pennsylvania. Peg was predeceased also by her parents, her sisters Elaine Davis Palmer and Jean Davis Loy. She is survived by four nephews, Peter Loy of California, William (Barbara) Loy of Fort Collins, CO, Robert Loy of Brooksville, FL, and Terry Davis (Mary) Palmer of Smethport. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Denise Waslo, Luigi Nudi, Deisha Gengler, Kriste Lynn Greenert, Mary Ann McMellon, their mother, Linda Nudi, and twelve great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at noon at the Church of the Ascension, Bradford, with Mother Stacey Fussell presiding. Internment with full Military Honors will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA on Monday, April 30,2012 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church of the Ascension's Altar Guild or Memorial Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.
