Obituary of Ruth M. Porter
Smethport - Ruth M. Porter, 90, of Bradford, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday (February 27, 2022), surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 22, 1931 at home in Bradford, the daughter of George and Ethel Platt Silvis. On November 10, 1950, in Dahoga, PA, she married Harold W. Porter who died on March 1, 1988.
Ruth attended Wilcox school and for many years was a loving stay at home mother and wife. Later on in life she went to work at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport before her retirement.
She was a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church in Gifford. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and dining out. She especially loved her trip to the ocean with her daughters. She enjoyed country music, her favorite was Billy Ray Cyrus, who she got to see live in concert.
She is survived by:
four daughters: Sandra J. (Ken) Schrader of Leesburg, FL, Connie S. (Richard) Obermeyer of Huntersville, NC, Julie L. (Tim) Myers of Lewis Run, and Sharon M. (Ed) Roach of Port Allegany
One son: Michael W. (Dara) Porter of Bristol, VA
16 granchildren, 21 great grandchildren
One sister: Betty L. Witherell of Kane, PA
One brother in law: Edgar Porter of Shinglehouse
Several nieces and nephews, as well as very special friend, Sue Hartman.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by one son: John A. Porter, twin brothers: Harry and Harold Yale, five sisters: Mildred, Florence, Dorothy, Melva and Nellie Mae, as well as her traveling companion and friend, Helen Heredia.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 2 from 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 11am from the funeral home with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
