Obituary of Erma Phillips
Smethport – N. Erma Phillips, 92, of Smethport, passed away Wednesday (October 6, 2021) at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY, after a brief battle with COVID-19.
She was born March 12, 1929 in Bradford, the daughter of Donovan Higley and Nina Ford Higley . On March 29, 1951, in Portville, NY, she married Richard M. Phillips, who died July 28, 2019.
Erma was a graduate of Otto Township High School. She was the payroll and office manager at the former Jaguar Clothing Company of Smethport, PA.
Erma enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, camping and spending winters in Florida. Erma loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely.
She is survived by:
one son: Douglas Phillips of Olean, NY
one daughter: Barbara (Lloyd) Burkhouse of Bradford, PA
six grandchildren: Christina Burkhouse, Jason (Brittany) Bosworth, Katie (Dave) Fink, Joseph Phillips, Donovan Phillips, Brian (Jordon) Burkhouse
eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Richard W. Phillips and Mitchell D. Phillips, three brothers and one sister.
Following Erma’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Private funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 11 AM at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport.
