Ralph was a true friend to both my wife and I. We bought all our gasoline at Ralphs station. The times we had talking politics and general gab sessions, sometimes lasting over an hour. He was a true friend and will be missed.

I met Ralph through my parents and their friends. He was a great person to play cards with. I will never forget the last time we all played cards together. Ralph help get everyone coffee and someone made a joke about tipping him for helping. Ralph said that if we tipped him it would probably only be a penny. Two people placed pennies under his coffee cup and I placed an IOU note. When he returned and saw the pennies and note, Ralph said "what else do you expect from teachers". It was a great memory. I'm just sorry I didn't meet Ralph sooner.

Smethport has lost another one of it's native sons, and Ralph will be sorely missed by all that knew him. I am proud to have known him, and had the privilege of calling Ralph Mayer my friend and Lodge Brother. I will never forget seeing Ralph and Flo in that Mustang of his "Flaming the Main".
