I had told Mr. Nolen that I wanted to be a teacher and his advice to me on how to get the kids to behave was to "Give them the evil eye" and then he would show me...every time I would see him at a football game after I had graduated ( I only went to a few), he would say, "Janice, don't forget to give them the evil eye." Today I am a teacher and I love giving the evil eye to my students for fun!!
Me and my friend Kathy McGavisk Carpenter had made up a silly song about him and sang it...it's been years! "Walking down the street and saw Strollin' Nolen" (made this up b/c we saw him walking his dog one night cruising around Port Allegany. Rest in peace Mr. Nolen, you were a great teacher.

Fun loving Gene. Joking cards, dominoes, dinner out dancing on Monday afternoons.
So many memories. A trip to Myrtle Beach with him and his wife Jane. Taught our children Math. You will be so missed...But God had another plan and took you home. May you find the rest you need. May Jesus wrapp his arms around all who grieve Gene's passing...He was a great guy...

Gene and I taught at Smethport High School for years. I enjoyed our rides there with Dee Hardes- we always had fun. He was a constant at the church and will be sadly missed-

Fond memories from my childhood with "Geney" and "Iggy". Gene was my first boss. I was his helper on his paper route and lived across Clinton Street from him.
A nice family and Gene was always good to me eventhough I was a younger "tagalong"
I was touched to see that he continued to be good to the young as a school teacher.
My condolences and prayers to his family.

Mr. Nolen was a great teacher! I used to come into his classroom during my studyhalls to grade papers. He would always make me laugh. Even after graduation, I saw him taking tickets at the football games and we always took a few minutes to chat. RIP Mr. Nolen
